Data analytics are a collection of relevant, historical, statistics that when properly applied can provide a competitive advantage to a team or individual. Through the collection and analyzation of these data, sports analytics inform players, coaches and other staff in order to facilitate decision making both during and prior to sporting events.

Ever since relegation to League one in 2014 it is clear that Barnsley have been using data  analysis in recruitment to try and find an edge. In the main part this has worked, signing young players with the aim of developing them and selling on for a tidy profit.
